Prelude to a Diary of Bangkok Matchmaker
My name is Nikki Assavathorn, and sorry I took me so long to write a prelude to this blog, but better late than never. I am passionate about connecting people offline by using MeetNLunch website as a platform to provide information of what I do. Graduated with a First class honour from Imperial College, worked in London as a consultant, and moved back to Thailand in 2005. I enjoyed painting, networking, trekking, hearing good feedback from my matchmaking service, and learning how to improve it. Dislike dishonesty, gossip, whitening cream products, and procrastinating.
Why do I want to set up a dating service, especially in Thailand where so many people have a huge stigma around such idea? I love challenge, I know I can do it well, and everyone know there is so many single people in Thailand who needs a good medium to connect them together, so why not? I was also inspired by Duo, a Korean dating service. Duo managed to turn around negative perception of Korean people towards a dating service, and now it has an office in every single town in Korea and has around 40,000 members. My other inspirations came from Samantha Daniels, another very successful matchmaker in the U.S. , and Violet Lim, who runs a matchmaking firm in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
It has been over a year since I started MeetNLunch, and I’m loving every minute of it. MNL has been one of the most rewarding projects I have ever embarked on, and I’m glad I started it despite protests from my parents. They feared that I would come across some nasty individuals …etc…I suppose it could happen one day, but like Dr. Robert Anthony said “Forget about all the reasons why something wouldn’t work, you only need one reason why it will”. My reason is I really believe in what I do, and if it can make a difference to one couple, it’s all worth it.
