Lying about age

house_number_45.jpgWhy do men often lie about their ages? I had a consultation with a client yesterday.  He put down in the webform that he was 38 years old. The guy was intelligent and had a great job with a bank.  (Not tough at all for me to match.)

I asked him to provide a photocopy of IDcard, and this is when the truth usually comes out.  They will start getting all funny, and ask me if they really look 38? Get me to guess their ages, or some came out with a lame excuse that the IDcards were left at home/lost /stolen/ my dog ate it.  You name it, but the thing with them is it’s never an easy “Here is my copy of IDcard”.  RED FLAG.

Anyway, they will later admit that in fact they are 45 or 44 years old because I wouldn’t let them join the service without the right paper. There is nothing wrong with being the age they are, but I think they feel it will be harder for them to meet someone in the late 20s or early 30s as they previously requested with me.  “I’m young at heart, really.”, they all said.  “And I looked young, right?”.  Why do they need this assurance from a matchmaker if they know deep down they are?

Note to men: Some girls wouldn’t mind at all dating someone many years older than them, because these guys come with a stable job and may have more to offer than somebody closer to their ages.
