Seth Godin: My Matchmaking Marketing Inspiration
I have been an avid fan of Seth Godin ever since I heard my client reading “Small is the New Big” book. Through his book and blog I have learnt a numerous tactic that have been applicable to my matchmaking business, some which I have already done out of “desperation” to get the business up running, and the others were just interesting to try.
An example of Seth Godin’s suggestion was to spread the bussiness without advertising by getting the clients to talk about it to their friends (How we did it is a trade secret). It is a much better form of advertisement as people are truly passionate about what they are saying when they really believe in the product. We don’t lie. We don’t raise expectatcion that cannot be met.
Today he blogged about “Fear, hope and love: the three marketing levers“, suggesting that people bought products based on these three emotions. I think MeetNLunch got all three. Our product is matching someone they’d like to date. People intially came to us because they FEAR of being alone, then we give them HOPE, and after they tried our service, they paid for their friends to do it too, and that’s what we called LOVE.
