Many of my girl friends always asked me, “where is the best bar in Bangkok to ‘hook up’ with guys?” Depending on the age and how the questioner would like to be ‘hooked up’, there are 2 different type of trendy bars they can go to in Thailand. The first type is the usual Western style bars where the ‘hooked up chat’ can go on for a long time. The second type is a ‘quick chat’, where guy approached the girl just to get her number before swiftly back off again to their table. It’s a common way of how Thai men do it. They normally call the girls up again at the privacy of their homes to learn more about the girls and possibly leading to asking her out. There is a well-known saying though that you can’t find a nice girl in the club and bar. Anyway, if you nice girl wants to break the rule, and want to have some fun once in a while, here are the list of nice bars you can hang out depending on your ‘hooked up’ preference or men that you would like to meet. I have divided the bars into Long chat and Quick Chat. Some posh bars like Sirocco/Distill and Bamboo are excluded because people tend not to chat to strangers and defeat the purpose of this list.

Long Chat

• Spasso has a live band, playing pops and Latino favorite hits. It has some wealthy expats hanging about travelling in and out for business trips. • Bed Supperclub is notorious for snobbish service orientated. Don’t recommend you sit/lie on bed on the second floor. • Met Bar is a classy bar where hi-so used to hang out. Metropolitan Bangkok, 27 South Sathorn Rd., 02-625-3333
• Molly Bar RCA I’m pretty sure this is a lesbian bar, but if I was wrong please let me know. RCA, Rama 9 Rd., 02-203-0972
• Pandanus This one, I’m 99% sure that it has turned into a gay bar, but great place and décor. So if you want to blend in with those gorgeous men and have a good laugh, this is a great place to be. 50 Soi Nanta, Sathorn Soi 1, 02-287-4021
• Q Bar I don’t think I need to talk about this one, even my little cousin knows that it is as old as a grandpa, but it did go under some refurbishment in early 2008.

Quick Chat

• Baroque has a staggering ancient décor, but the music is anything but ancient. 559 Soi Rim Klong Sam Sen, Rama 9 Rd., 02-245-8950.
• Inch is a fun place for a younger crowd. It will give you the same feeling if you like RCA, and has famous Thai hip hop DJs excited the youngster. Ratchadaphisek Rd., near MRT Thailand Cultural Center, 02-660-9302, www.inchclub.com
• Route 66 is famous for its hip hop scene, and split into different music rooms. There is also a boy band singing in the lady’s toilet. 29/33-48 RCA, Rama 9 Rd., 02-203-0834 www.route66club.com
