Graduation Speech

abhisit1I couldn’t feel more honour recently when I recieved an invitation from my old school to speak at this year Graduation. This is not to mention that our current prime minister was also asked to give the same speech to my year more than a decade ago. Although I was no longer at the school for the graduation ceremony, but I heard his speech was exceptionally inspiring. Last year speech was made by another alumni who was both Cambridge and Oxford graduate and very accomplished in her career. There is so much to live up to.

The invitation came as a surprise for me, as I never thought a matchmaker would make a good role model, but apparently, I was selected because of that very reason. They selected me because I was an alumini and are “successful a little outside of the usual expectations, so could be regarded as a role model for risk taking, hard work, resilience, goal-setting, and all the other positive qualities that we (the school) try to encourage.”

The school suggested the topic, ‘what I wish I knew when I left school but have discovered for myself’. I still get the chilling down my spine when I read the letter from the IB Diploma Coordinator, the same feeling that you get when you are about to walk into the Headmaster’s office. My only hope is that the little experience I have gained over the years will be beneficial to these new graduates and that I will be able to convey the message at least half as good as Abhsit.
