Have you ever been set up by your mother on a date? See what other people say:
MeetNLunch survey finds 50% of the singles have been introduced a date at least once by their mother, and 90% are not happy with people the mother has set them up with.
In a recent poll conducted by MeetNLunch, the first International certified dating agency for professional in Thailand, 320 singles living in Bangkok with at least a Bachelor degree responded that mother’s opinion has an influenced on who they date, but 80% will not break up with their partner if the mother does not approve.
MeetNLunch poll found Thai singles ae not afraid to introduce someone they are dating to their mothers. 70% of singles said they will tell their mothers, with men more inclined to do so than woman. Some response show they are afraid to tell their mothers because she might ask too much or might not approve.
“Everyone has heard that mother played a major role in naturing a child’s personality, but we wanted to hear how singles felt about their mother when it comes to choosing their partner,” said Nikki Assavathorn, a founder of MeetNLunch. “The results of this poll show that singles are letting the mother helped set them up on the date, but the results of the match are not as good as they wanted.”
The poll also asked participants why their mothers failed to introduced quality dates, and the response indicates that mother often introduced her friend’s sibling and not necessary someone singles would get along with.
Interestingly 30% of female singles think their mothers are more picky than them when it comes to choosing a partner for them, with 80% reveals that their mother would care about wealth and job security most when it comes to someone dating her child. Men believe their mothers would choose more on the personality.
When asked if singles would stop dating someone that mother disapproved, 18-25 years old female responses that they might half of the time, while the number of singles saying no increased as they get older. Some will try to reason with her until she sees it from singles’ point of view, but many will choose to accept the differences and continue to talk to her and see this person the more they get older.
Finally, when asked if they would go to their mother for advice when dating someone, 65% of the male responded no, while 50% of the female responded yes. This is in-lined with percentage of them believing their mother are interested in their love life (while single and attached.)
The MeetNLunch Poll was conducted in early August 2010 and field 320 responses of singles from Bangkok who use MeetNLunch between 18-55 years old, and 82% is below 39 years old.
