Got some good news to update people, we have 2 couples who decided to get married today. One of them is a “project” that I have been working on for YEARSSSS, he is probably one of my very first few people that I personally worked with. And I’m so thrilled when he  emailed me today that he has popped the question, and the Mrs.-to-be said yes.  Would she have said “no”? I really doubt it.  But this would have been a very different story if they were left to pursue their previously chosen paths.  She was not a believer in matchmaking I think, but an opened-minded individual and someone with a big heart.  So without knowing that one of her friends has put in a really good word for her to me, I set up her on series of dates.  Well, some turn out interesting, some turn out boring, and some….questionable date.  She wasn’t convinced that I select her a good match, ….but you can’t judge a book by its cover.  Couple of hours of dating is just simply not enough to get to know someone, hence why I always tell people to meet up again if you can.  My little “project” guy is a tad lazy though, does he likes her? Yes, but he disappeared off the edge of the earth to do some great charity work, that I have to call him up and “scold” my client for not inviting her out sooner.  And he knew he is not doing something right, if I’m picking up the phone to call him myself I think the poor guy is probably frightened when he gets a call from me at some point, anyway, he knows I meant well.  At last, the two met up again, opened up and found more things in common.  Opening up is probably the key, it showed your vulnerability, but at the same time you are letting someone into your life.  Congratulation to both of you for having found each other and thank you for being a great clients! You guys made my job awesome!

Now, the next couple, I didn’t personally work with them myself, but they are so lovely that they both deserve a mention too…just want to post an excerpt from his ‘thank you’ message

So sweet right?

After years long of not understanding the fun of playing poker, I recently became very interested on playing Texas Hold’em on my ipod. I love the little decision making process on every single move that the card is laid and calculating the odd of my opponents. Say you have to make 1,000 decisions to win a game, and there is a small chance of winning 35% 40% 70% here and there. The trick is to win these little odds over and over again because if you wait for the prefect cards to land on your lap, you will lose all your money in the end.

In dating, as in poker, the decisions we made to date someone follow these similar pattern. MeetNLunch’s clients can either wait for the odds to be extremely high before agreeing to go on a date or we can take chances because there are so many factors at play. Ask yourself this, is my chance of ending up with this person better than head or tail? If yes, then you should go on the dates again and again until you hit a jackpot. The odd of winning a partner will be higher than not accepting any date even when you think the profiles sound just okay.

Understanding that the good decisions you made doesn’t always lead to good outcomes, but over a long period of trial, you will eventually meet the right person. I have came across women in their early 30s who are so sure of the profiles they are looking for, that he must be a doctor, master degree graduate, less that 6 years apart from her, and reasonably tall, otherwise, she wouldn’t consider meeting him. We were able to match 2 out of these criteria, namely the occupation and the degree, but he was slightly older than what she wanted, and despite being taller than her – still came down to being too short.

If she only decide to meet close-to-guaranteed perfect match, she is letting go of a good opportunities, and we can’t guarantee there’ll be a chemistry. Dating is all about giving the other person a chance especially if you have that small edge just like in poker, regardless of the outcome.

Often when I played poker, I felt this will be my last chance to win over the game, ALL IN or my opponent will know that I’ve been bluffing and always, I ended up busted. Similar to the date that you agree to meet, he is not going to be your last date, nor he is more important than the guy you met before, and unlikly to be more important than the guy you’ll meet in the future. So don’t treat the date or agreeig to go on the date as your last chance. By putting too much importance on the outcome of the date, you are making it hard to determine what the correct odd of finding the right person.

Don’t let the high odd deters you from making small edge of meeting the right person.

It was so nice to see my client again today after he got married.  K. Kiet dropped by with a fruit basket to say thank you to us matchmakers after we introduced him to his wife exactly today, one year ago.  He said he couldn’t be happier with his marriage and I could tell he is a very romantic guy if he was so thoughtful to bring us a present.  He showed us the pictures of his wedding and that it’ll be featured in the Honeymoon Travel magazine. I was right to guess that he’s taking his wife to somewhere romantic to celebrate tonight.  He blushed and said the Vertigo….aww,…how sweet.

I took a picture with K. Jae, a matchmaker who coordinated and helped k. Kiet and his wife to meet.

We never expect any gift but to see the people that we helped happy with their dates and got married down the road. It was so heartfelt and gave us a meaningful mission in our job.  Thank you client for trusting us.

I understand it’s often a dilemma for people who got married through us to annouce to all their guests at the wedding that they met through MeetNLunch, a dating agency.  After all, Thailand and in many countries still have a negative association with this industry – something that I have been working on to improve for the last 5 years.  With heart wanting to tell the partial truth, some goes as far as talking about me anyway, but in a disguise image/stories.  They ask me to provide a photo that doesn’t really look like me, so they can show it in a presentation. And I offered to record my voice, to congratulate them, because unfortunately, “I had to be go abroad and couldn’t come to the wedding in person”.  What do I think of all these credit in disguise? 

I appreciate it, of course. Little, or no credit, I’m still please that they have found each other and MeetNLunch played a part to make it all begin.   All I asked is they helped spread the words, that there are good companies in the Thai dating industry, and to help introducing singles that you come across to one another.

Sometimes I don’t want to write too much about what I experienced in matching people during the day because I don’t want to jinx it.  Do you know that feeling when you think this is going to turn out great for people you matched, but as soon as you talk about it, things started to turn pear-shaped?  Has it ever happened to any of you?

So today, I’m going to go hush hush on those promising couples that are about to go on dates out there, and wish you all a fantastic 1st date, 2nd date, and marriage

Just recieved a 1 month notice anniversary letter from a client. It’s kinda sweet so wanted to share it in my blog:

“Subject: 1 เดือนของ ป. กับคุณธ.

สวัสดีค่ะ คุณแจ้และทีมงานทุกคน

เขียนมาส่งช่าวค่ะ  ตอนนี้ป.กับพี่ธ.รู้จักกันครบ 1 เดือนแล้วค่ะ  (ป.เรียกคุณธ. ว่า พี่ธ.ค่ะ) ยอมรับเลยค่ะว่าพี่ธ. คุยเก่งมาก ๆ แถมพี่เขายังบอกอีกว่ากำลังพยายามทำให้ป.พูดให้มากขึ้น

1 เดือนที่ผ่านมา ส่วนใหญ่จะนัดทานข้าวกลางวันบ้าง มื้อเย็นบ้าง ในวันทำงาน ประมาณสัปดาห์ละครั้ง โชคดีที่ออฟฟิศไม่ไกลกันมากนัก (แต่ส่วนใหญ่พี่ธีจะออกตจว.บ่อย)  เพิ่งจะนัดเจอกันวันหยุดตอนช่วงสงกรานต์ที่ผ่านมา เพราะว่าส่วนใหญ่แล้ววันเสาร์ป.ต้องทำงาน พี่ธ.ก็เลยไม่อยากนัดวันอาทิตย์เพราะอยากให้ป.ได้พักผ่อน

วันพฤหัสฯที่ 22 นี้เรามีนัด dinner กันที่ Anna ค่ะ ครบรอบ 1 เดือน ที่เป็นวันนี้ เพราะว่าพี่ธ.ไปทำงานที่ตจว.ตั้งแต่วันอาทิตย์กลับถึงกทม.เย็นวันพุธ พี่เขายังบ่นเสียดายว่าน่าจะเป็นวันที่ 20 พอดี

เอาไว้จะเขียนมาเล่าให้ฟังใหม่นะค่ะ ขอให้คุณแจ้และทีมงานทุกคนมีความสุขกับการทำงานนะค่ะ”
